Dr Lorna Williamson was Reader and Honorary Consultant in Transfusion Medicine in the University of Cambridge for nearly 20 years, undertaking clinical research and trials. She was NHS Blood and Transplant’s Medical and Research Director from 2007 till 2016, and has held many roles advising on national and international transfusion policy and safety. Following her retirement from the NHS, she has developed an interest in communicating science to the public. Her current passions are female education, including support for CamFed, helping women develop in medicine and science, and the fortunes of the Scottish rugby teams, both female and male.
