Getting Started with IT
The Introduction to Computing in Cambridge page of the University Information Services (UIS) website provides information about collecting your UIS computer username and password before arriving in Cambridge and other essential information about using the University’s IT services when you get here.
The IT Technician offers support to students on a drop in best endeavours basis from 8:30-12:30 Monday to Friday. Further support is also available by appointment from 1:30 to 5:30 pm.
All student study bedrooms, both on and off campus, have a wired (Ethernet) connection. All buildings on campus offer Wifi access via Eduroam. The College's offsite student properties have wireless broadband connections.
Your Hermes webmail account is provided by the University Information Service (UIS) and is the standard means of communication at the University of Cambridge and Lucy Cavendish College.
Shared PCs and Apple Mac computers can be found in the ground floor Reading Room of the Library, the Library foyer and basement, the Computer Room in Oldham Hall and the Common Room at Histon Road. These are Managed Cluster Service desktops offering a range of software and teaching materials, networked storage space that allows you to access your work anywhere within the University, and pay-as-you-go printing via DS-Print. A shared computer is also available in the common room of some of the College's off-site student properties.
Printing, photocopying and scanning
Multi-functional devices (MFDs) are available for printing, photocopying and scanning in both colour and black and white in the Library foyer, the Porters' Lodge and in the Common Room at Histon Road. A black and white laser printer is also available outside the Common Room in the Basement of the Library.
