IT Resources

Internet Access

All student study bedrooms, either on campus or offsite have a wired (Ethernet) connection. Additionally, all College buildings have Wi-Fi access.

Shared Computers

The main computer room, located in the basement of the Library, has 9 PCs and 1 Apple Mac accessible 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. 7 computers (1 Mac, 6 PCs) are MCS desktops on the University managed cluster with a wide range of software and teaching materials, networked storage space that allows you to access your work anywhere within the University of Cambridge, and pay-as-you-go printing (DS-print). 3 open access PCs are for simple work, surfing the internet and email. There is also 1 MCS PC in the Library foyer, and another MCS PC in the Porter's Lodge. 

A shared computer is also available in some off-site College accommodation common rooms.

PC Loan Scheme

The College has a PC loan scheme to help students who do not have their own computer. Please contact the IT team for details.

Emergency Laptop

If your own computer is not working, and you have urgent coursework or exams, the College has laptops (PC) available free of charge, please apply to the IT team.

Printing

There is one networked A5/A4/A3 capable colour laser printer / scanner in the computer room, one networked A5/A4 colour laser printer also capable of black/white photocopy/scan in the corridor, one networked mono A4 laser printer in the Porter's Lodge. Simply use the MCS computers to print or print from your own computer.

Printing from your own computer

To connect your own computer to the College printers, go to DS-print and follow the instructions. You will need to install the PC or Mac client software first and then the drivers for the relevant printers

Photocopying

The A4 mono photocopier is situated in the library basement corridor, disposable copy cards are available from the Porter's Lodge. 

Scanning

The laser printers in the library basement computer room and the corridor are capable of scanning documents to email. 

College IT support

Detailed College IT information is available in the student 'Blue Book'. There are IT induction and IT Workshops at the beginning of each academic year to help new students check their computer for security threats, updates, antivirus, compatibility, internet connection set-up and testing. Advice on required additional computer equipment, hardware and software purchase is available from the College ICT Manager.

IT Surgery

The IT Surgery is based in the IT Technician's office in the basement of the Library, and provides face-to-face support during term time. No appointment is necessary, so please feel free to drop in during the following hours:

  • Monday: 2.00pm - 4.00pm
  • Wednesday: 10.00am - 12.00pm
  • Friday: 2.00pm - 4.00pm

Face-to-face support is also available out of surgery hours by appointment, both in and outside of term time. Email helpdesk@lucy-cav.cam.ac.uk to book a slot. Support is available from 9.00am - 5.00pm Monday - Friday.
