Lucy Cavendish College Student Union
The Student Union is a lively and vital part of life at Lucy Cavendish.  It organises many social and sporting events, which give students the welcome opportunity to switch off from their studies and relax.  The SU committee for 2009/10 is as follows; please feel free to contact the relevant committee member if you have a question, a concern, or are seeking information about the work we carry out.

2009-2010 Executive committee
President – Michelle Tucker (mt477)
Michelle is the person to talk to if you have problems which you have not been able to resolve with your Director of Studies or Personal Tutor.  She can also give one-to-one advice and assistance on personal matters.  Michelle also oversees the work of the SU Committee to ensure that it works within the confine of its constitution.  She also sits on various committees including Governing Body and College Affairs where the students views are communicated.  On a personal level, she is a 2nd year Undergraduate reading Politics, Psychology and Sociology.

Vice-President - Christine Liddiard (cl427)

Speak to Christine if the President of the SU is unavailable for the same relevant issues. She is also responsible for the administration of the SU dvd collection, allocation of Oldham cages for storage, newspapers and the SU guest beds.  Christine is a 2nd year Undergraduate reading Classics. She has two teenage sons and a husband whom she leaves at home during term time when she is in Cambridge. This is her first degree, her most recent job was as a pregnancy counsellor.

Treasurer – Julia Cowell (jhc50)

Contact Julia for payment of all expenses approved within club and society budgets or within an SU open meeting. Appropriate invoices and receipts need to be submitted. The treasurer can also be contacted for details of the SU budget (including submitted club and society budgets).

Graduate Representative – Margaret Wilson (msw37)

Margaret completed her BA in English here at Lucy in 2006 and has gone on to do an MPhil in Criminological Research followed by a PhD. She has lived on site and currently lives in private accommodation off site. She is able to offer informed guidance and advice based on extensive association with college in various capacities. She has also lived just outside of Cambridge for over 20 years, so knows the area well.  Margaret aims to provide a regular 'surgery' and would like to organise social events for the graduate students through the coming year.
Graduate students can contact Margaret directly, particularly with any queries or issues that are only relevant to graduate studies.

Secretary – Holly Grimes (hg285)

Holly is a 2nd year student on the Graduate Course in Medicine at Lucy. Contact Holly with any proposals or issues that need to be put on the agenda for SU Open meetings. In addition to the agenda, Holly is also responsible for circulating copies of the minutes of all open SU meetings to all members of the student body via email.


2009-2010 Non-executive committee members

Welfare Officer – Sarah Niemann (sn364)

Sarah can  be contacted for any personal problems and issues including those of Health and Safety.  At various points throughout term Sarah will host and orgainse 'well-being' events to help alleviate stress and promote mental and physical health.  She is also responsible for the supply of free emergency condoms found in the porters lodge, as well as the supply of free pregnancy tests available on confidential request.


International Students’ Officer – Tina Eichstaedt (cae31)

International students can contact Tina regarding any issues particular to studying as an international student at Lucy. The international officer is also in charge of organising the international movie nights in the common room.


Women’s and External Officer– Nadia Al-Ammar (na330)

Nadia is the college representative for Women’s issues and will provide information, and communicate to Lucy students, any current campaigns or issues within the city or University.


Green Officer – Nichola Rudolf (njr42)

Nicky is responsible for the distribution and collection of green composting bins at the beginning and end of every academic year. She can also be contacted regarding any environmental issues within the college or university including recycling, energy efficiency, fair trade foods etc.


Sports and Societies Officer – Christine Urbanski (cu212)

Contact Christine for information on what official sports clubs and societies exist at Lucy and who can be contacted about these. She will also be able to help you to set up any new clubs or societies and is responsible for ensuring that all clubs and societies have up-to-date constitutions.


Website and Computing Officer – to be confirmed

The IT officer can be contacted with any IT issues, comments or suggestions including updates to information on the website. She is also a point of contact in addition to the IT manager, Scarlet Wang with any IT problems you may be experiencing.


Entertainments Officers – Vicky Wilson (vw246) and Hui Tan (ht281)

Vicky and Hui are in charge of the Lucy social events and occasions, including all of the Fresher’s week events. They can be contacted if you have any queries or suggestions about social events.


Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Officer - to be confirmed

Food committee – to be confirmed
Contact this committee with any comments, criticism or suggestions about the food in the canteen and/or formal hall.

Bar steward
– Annabel Banks (amb213)
The bar steward is in charge of setting bar opening times, organising staff for these, and managing the bar stock. She can be contacted if students would like the bar opened for a particular event.

If you have a suggestion, problem or issue that you would like to escalate, the following routes are open to you:
SU representatives – the positions detailed here show what the relevant officers have responsibility for. The SU committee are a good first point of call, especially for more minor or informal problems.
Personal Tutor – Your personal tutor is available with any personal problems. They can also refer you to the best point of contact in more serious matters.

Director of Studies – Your ‘DoS’ is there for any problems you may be having academically including problems with supervisors, lectures etc.

Senior Tutor – Stephanie Ellington (skle2) – The Senior Tutor can be contacted with more formal complaints and queries, or if you feel there is a conflict of interest with a Tutor or DoS.

College Dean – Jenny Koenig (jk111) – This is another contact for formal complaints, and will deal with issues where there is a conflict of interest with the Senior Tutor. The Dean is also involved in college disciplinary matters.
