After gaining a BA Hons in German and Philosophy (University of Manchester), Lesley trained as a Chartered Accountant and was admitted to the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales in 1988. She then undertook a part time Masters in Anglo-German Literary Relations (University of Leeds) whilst working in Arts Development. This was principally as Director of Business and Resources for Eastern Arts Board, the regional ‘arm’ of the Arts Council.
Her next move was to The Open University in the East of England where she was Assistant Director, responsible for External Relations and Widening Participation. There she worked closely with the Health & Social Welfare tutors which led to a period working in the health sector, latterly as Project Director for the regional Aimhigher Healthcare Strand, developing a range of collaborative projects to engage young people in higher education relating to health professions.
Lesley has a strong interest in education at all levels and was a school governor for eighteen years in local primary and secondary schools. Her post as Bursar at Lucy Cavendish College offers Lesley the opportunity to draw together various strands of her career, skills and interest to date.
