Welcome to the eighth edition of Nautilus, this time with a medical theme. You can read about the work of some of our alumnae into pain management, the biology of the human placenta and cancer. Many Lucy Cavendish alumnae are involved in medical practice and research; we hope that you will enjoy reading these snapshots of some of their current work.
Tribute to Mary Dezille
It is with great sadness that we learnt of the sudden death of Mary Dezille, one of our much loved and valued alumnae, who has for many years served on the committee of the Alumnae Association and who, for the past three years, has chaired the Events Sub-Committee, where she organised some of our successful and enjoyable outings, including last year’s guided tour of the Fashion Hall of the Victoria and Albert Museum. Julie Mcdonald, our Alumnae Association President has written a tribute to Mary, which we’re sure will be endorsed by all those who had the privilege of knowing her. She will be missed by many, as a friend and a colleague.
We are all looking forward to this year’s garden party, where current and past Lucy Cavendish students can meet to catch up with each other, exchange news and indeed, meet other alumnae for the first time.
We also look ahead to the Alumnae Weekend at the end of September, a University-wide celebration, where each college also arranges events for its own alumnae, friends and partners. Keep your eye on the Lucy Cavendish website for more details.
Lucy Cavendish College Alumnae Association Committee
All alumnae are invited to this special trip to Coggeshall and Cressing Temple for guided tour of the site with the impressive 13th century barn once owned by the Knights Templar and the Walled Garden which has been faithfully reconstructed as a Tudor pleasure garden.
There are three events for alumnae taking place over the weekend including the LCC Alumnae Association AGM and alumnae reunion dinner. On Friday we join with Newnham and Murray Edwards for a very special event Older and wiser: how women over 50 are making their mark (available to book now). Keep an eye on the website and your inbox for further details.
