Welcome to the fifth issue of Nautilus

We are now nearly half-way through our 50th Anniversary year and we've been busy with celebratory lectures, dinners and visits - and there are still many more exciting events to come.

The focus of our celebrations over the summer will be the 1960s themed Super Garden Party this Sunday. Tickets are now sold out, with over 400 guests expected, and we hope to see many of you there. Entertainment will include music, swing-boats, sideshow stalls, children’s activities and, of course, a traditional English afternoon tea. There will also be craft and vintage clothes stalls to raise funds for the College. There's still time to donate your vintage clothing and there's a box in the Porters' Lodge for any donations.

As part of our anniversary celebrations the College is mounting an exhibition of photos to record the personal 'Lucy Memories' of those who have had contact with the College over the years. Please contact the Development Office ( if you have any photographs to contribute. Please also contact the Development Office if you would like to help at the Super Garden Party or to mount the 'Lucy Memories' display; all volunteers are welcome.

The Association held a very successful visit to Fashion Collection at the Victoria and Albert Museum in April, which you can read about below. The next Alumnae outing will be to Madingley Hall on Saturday 11th July at 2pm, when you can enjoy a guided tour of the main building followed by afternoon tea and the opportunity to explore the beautiful gardens. Please see the 'Events' section of Nautilus for more information. We hope you will be able to join us!

We hope to meet even more of our alumnae during this special anniversary year and we would love to receive your news and feedback.

Lucy Cavendish Alumnae visit Madingley Hall

Saturday 11th July, 2pm

We will have a guided tour of the main building followed by afternoon tea in this historic house. Afterwards there will be time to wander around the beautiful gardens.

As it is not possible to get to Madingley Hall by public transport we will collect those who haven’t got a car, or who are coming to Cambridge by train, from Lucy Cavendish College at 1.30pm.

In the first instance the trip is only open to Alumnae, but if we have spaces available closer to the time we will extend it to family and friends.

If you are interested, please contact Mary Dezille at md286[at] It will be £20 for the tour and afternoon tea. Payment will be required before the day of the visit.
