We offer a wide range of accommodation, from characterful Victorian houses through to modern apartments. They are all ideally situated for easy access to the College, the University departments and the beautiful city centre of Cambridge.
Lucy Cavendish aims to accommodate all its students for the first three years of their studies. In addition to our single rooms, we can offer one and two bedroom apartments suitable for couples and families.
Once you’re offered a place here, we can help you find the best option for you. We can also give you some tips about what to bring along, so that you feel at home and settled as quickly as possible.
All our rooms are furnished with a single bed, desk, desk chair, lamp, wardrobe and chest of drawers. The majority of rooms have shelves or a bookcase and a noticeboard. Kitchens come equipped with cooking facilities, kettle, toaster, fridge/freezer, sink and cupboards.
Most undergraduates live on the College campus itself. Here is a taste of some of the options:
De Brye, Bertram and Warburton Hall offer modern rooms with ensuite shower rooms and shared kitchen facilities; usually between four and six students.
Oldham Hall also has some two-bedroom ‘sets’, where two rooms share a bathroom and kitchenette.
Barrmore and Strathaird are converted Victorian villas. Barrmore contains flats with four bedrooms sharing a bathroom, kitchen and dining area. In Strathaird, larger rooms are spread across the building, with bathrooms and kitchen facilities shared between four and nine students.
Whinside House is an early 20th century, gabled, brick building converted into fifteen student bedrooms with access to shared kitchen and bathrooms.
Rents for single on-site rooms for 2019/2020 will range from £20.68 to £22.20.
Many students live in a bright and modern apartment block on Histon Road. This complex has bike sheds and gardens, local shops opposite and is a ten minute walk from the College. Rooms are en-suite, with large kitchens shared between three and ten students, and a large common room. There are four one-bedroom and four two-bedroom apartments suitable for couples and families, each with a bathroom, kitchen facilities and a living/dining area.
The College also offers accommodation in off-site houses located between five and twenty minutes’ walk from the College. The rooms have shared bathrooms, kitchen facilities and living/dining areas.
Rent in the off-site houses for 2019/2020 ranges from £17.72 to £24.14 per night.
Paying for your room
A deposit is payable for all rooms/apartments before you arrive. This will be £500 for a single room or studio and £950 for an apartment.
You can keep your room over Christmas and Easter and you will need to pay for the entire rental period. No refunds or rental breaks are given for time spent away from College.
