We realise that finding the right accommodation is an important part of starting at university. At Lucy Cavendish College we are proud to offer a diverse range of residences to suit all tastes and budgets all offering you the opportunity to socialise, relax and study in a safe and secure environment. All our accommodation is situated within 20-25 minutes (on foot) from College and the beautiful city centre of Cambridge with many properties closer.
Lucy Cavendish has signed up to the ANUK National Code for Assured Accommodation giving you peace of mind that your rights to safe, good standard accommodation are protected.
Lucy Cavendish aims to accommodate all its students for the first 3 years of their studies. In addition to our single rooms, we also have a small selection of 1 and 2 bedroom apartments suitable for couples and families. For new students, more information on how to apply will be sent to you as part of the admissions process. We operate a 'Room Ballot' system each year for returning students (up to your 3rd year) where you will be able to choose a specific room for your next academic year according to availability.
Most undergraduates and many students on nine-month graduate courses live within the College itself. The majority of on-site rooms are located in De Brye, Bertram and Warburton Hall. These rooms are modern with ensuite shower rooms and shared kitchen facilities; usually between four to six students. A smaller number, in Oldham Hall, consist of two-bedroom ‘sets’ sharing a bathroom and kitchenette between two rooms.
Those with a preference for nineteenth-century character may opt for rooms in one of our converted Victorian villas, Barrmore and Strathaird. In Barrmore, students share four-bedroom flats, each with a bathroom, kitchen and dining area. In Strathaird, larger rooms are spread across the building, with bathrooms and kitchen facilities shared between four to six students. Alternatively there is Whinside House, an early 20th century, gabled, brick building converted into 15 good sized student bedrooms with access to shared kitchen and bathrooms. Rents for single on-site rooms for 2019/2020 will range from £20.68 to £22.20 per night including heating and lighting.
Off-site, our main accommodation complex is at 100 Histon Road, ten minutes’ walk from the College - pictured left. The Histon Road complex opened in 2014, and consists principally of en-suite rooms, with large kitchens shared between three to ten rooms, and a large common room. There are four one-bedroom and four two-bedroom apartments suitable for couples and families, each with a bathroom, kitchen facilities and a living/dining area. Rent for a single room at Histon Road for 2019/2020 will be £23.48 per night.
The College also offers accommodation in off-site houses located between 5 and 20 minutes walk from the main College site. Some of these houses have en-suite rooms and in others students share bathrooms, kitchen facilities and living/dining areas. Rent in the off-site houses for 2019/2020 will range from £17.72 to £24.14 per night.
All our rooms are furnished with a single bed, desk, desk chair, lamp, wardrobe and chest of drawers. The majority of rooms will have shelves or a bookcase and a pin board. Kitchens come equipped with a cooker, kettle, toaster, fridge/freezer, sink and cupboards. We provide cleaning equipment such as a vacuum cleaner, mop, dustpan and brush etc but not cleaning products or cloths and sponges.
Students are not required to vacate their rooms at Christmas and Easter and are required to pay for their room for the entire rental period. No refunds or rental breaks are given for time spent away from College.
A deposit is payable for all rooms/apartments before you arrive. This will be £500 for a single room or studio and £950 for an apartment.
All rooms, both on and off the main College site, have a wired (Ethernet) connection. All buildings on the College site offer Wi-Fi access via the College's own network or Eduroam. The College's offsite student properties have wired and wireless broadband connections.
More room information is available in the members area of the website. New students will be sent access details. For off-site properties, wifi instructions are available on the house noticeboard.
