Lucy Cavendish is famous for both its fresh, seasonal cuisine and the friendly welcome it extends to guests. Our sunny, modern dining hall opens onto an al fresco eating area, popular in summer; galleried reception rooms above the hall are used for pre-dinner drinks.
What's for breakfast?
The Nautilius Cafe is open from 8am until 12noon Monday to Friday in the Student Common Room. We have a delicious selection of pastries, hot items, cereal, porridge, fresh fruit and juice. For a more substantial meal sandwiches, wraps, cakes, and snacks are available to either have in or take away if you're out for the day. We have a lovely new bean-to-cup coffee machine for hot drinks and Lucy Cavendish reusable cups for sale both in the cafe and Porters' Lodge to take your hot drink away in.
What's for lunch?
Lunch is served on weekdays throughout the year, with a choice of hot and cold main courses, sandwiches, salads and soup; vegetarian and vegan options are always available, and our chef caters for a variety of other dietary requirements. Our College offers takeaways for students unable to eat lunch at the usual time. At weekends, there is a well-attended Saturday brunch and a traditional ‘Sunday Roast’. Food is priced on a per-item basis, with the average lunch costing around £6.00. Lunch is open between 12.30pm-1.45pm during term time and 12.30pm-1.30pm out of term.
What's for supper?
An informal evening supper takes place three times a week, Monday to Wednesday 6.30pm until 7.45pm, during term time, and is often themed to reflect the diverse interests and cultural heritage of our students. Like most Cambridge Colleges, we also have a strong tradition of 'Formal Halls': weekly three-course, candle-lit, dinners at which academic gowns are worn and diners encouraged to socialize with guests and members of the College they might not otherwise get to know. The cost of Formal Halls for Lucy Cavendish students is currently £16.35, which includes pre-dinner drinks and wine.
Is there a bar?
The student-run College Bar is open every evening in term time, and the Common Room has tea- and coffee-making facilities, as well as a snack machine. Drinks are also available in the College Library.
Students are asked to pre-purchase credit for use in the Dining Hall amounting to £141 per term, and this may be spent on lunches, suppers, Formal Halls or takeaways, as you choose.
