Undergraduate Linnea Gradin was promoted to Vice-Captain of the women’s team at Cambridge University Association Football Club (CUAFC) recently, and now fellow Lucian and graduate student, Connie Buettner will join her on the first team.
The CUAFC first team, ‘the Blues’, trains three times a week, with one match a week on a Wednesday. This season the Blues team will be playing in the BUCS Midlands 1A league (see list of upcoming home fixtures below).
Interviewed yesterday, Vice-Captain Linnea said:
“We have our first game away against Wolverhampton today. We've got lots of new, strong players so I'm really excited to see what we can do against teams that have had a much longer pre-season and are used to this standard - we got promoted last year so will be challenging!”
Linnea’s new teammate, Connie started playing football in the playground “with the boys” at school. She then moved on to play for her school and her local team in Vienna. She continued to play at Edinburgh University where she completed her Master’s degree. In addition to the Cambridge University team, she also plays for the combined college team (Lucy/Churchill/Christs) as well as a local team in the Sunday league (Cambridge Rangers).
“I'm very excited to be part of such a fantastic team and am looking forward to our first game today.”
Update: Yesterday the Blues team scored a 1-1 draw, and wrote on Twitter "great team perfomance and a promising season ahead."
